antique furniture collection

Here at Furniture Fashion we do get very involved in the current trends and what is hot right now, as well as what's coming out in the near future. Not to forget the antique furniture lovers, here are a few important points to pay close attention to when hunting for your next treasure. First of all the term antique gets tossed around a lot. An antique is at least 100 years old, any thing newer is "vintage" or "collectable". I highly recommend you take the time to fully inspect each piece, including drawers and doors for proper closing and the overall piece ensure that no parts are missing. It is estimated that 90% of all problems and damages can be found in a 10 minute inspection. Also, are all the parts original such as hardware, and glass pieces, and has it been refinished? Check all around the piece and underneath for sloppy drips of new stain and damage to concealed areas like back panels. Do not hesitate to ask the questions you feel are important, if the dealer won't help then it may be for a reason. Often a second opinion is necessary especially if you have any doubts or the asking price is substantial. Signs of quality are sometimes obvious like finger joints and dove tails which were more prevalent Finally, most antiques are not going to reap you a hefty profit unless you acquire it at a steal so don't buy them as an investment.
